Color Pencil Roll

I finally got to make the color pencil roll I had been wanting to make for quite some time.  I had seen it at baby/children boutiques, consignment stores, and all over the online shops.  I used a pattern from Last-Minute Patchwork + Quilted Gifts.  It is listed in their 2- to 4- hour gifts section.  By the time I added the ricrac and made my own tie string, it was exactly 4 hours.  I am planning to make more, and hope it will go faster.

Marie,
That is really neat I love the colors and how tiddy it makes things. My mom made a similar thing for my crochet hooks that I love but I never thought of it for pencils. Great idea! Isn't great to be able to make something you see somewhere else!

This is such a great idea. Our colored pencil boxes always tear and rip apart and the pencils end up loose and get lost.

いやいや、何でも初めて作るものって時間かかるのよね。しかも子供の面倒見ながら4時間じゃなくてみんなが寝たあとで集中しての4時間だから。すっかり疲れたわ。

Kim,
I know exactly what you mean. I have shops I go to just for sewing inspiration.

Allison,
I have seen ones with crayons, or twistables too. My knitting needles and crochet hooks are in similar roll-type storage too.

I love it! Did the kids get to test it out at church today?

I am amazed at the variety of fabric you have on hand. Do you save all your scraps for projects like this? Sometimes I don't know if it is worth is to save scraps but now I'm rethinking that.

Alison,
I do have a lot of fabric. It has been four years since I started spending every birthday and Christmas money from Scott's parents and my parents on fabric.

I used to cut out hexagons from scraps for this

and then throw the rest away, until I saw this...

Now I can't throw anything away. I have a little cubby for scraps, and the pile grows and grows.

Hannah can't type very well yet so I will have to do! It's beautiful! We got so many comments on it yesterday -- the young women were especially envious of Hannah. I think it is the colors of the fabric that match the pencils that people love about it.

It is something that will be very well used and in our family for a long time. You're the best!

Adrianne,
I am glad Hannah likes it. I was really happy how it turned out too. The party was great. Our kids are still taking about the ice blocking and donut game. Kai keeps coming to me and saying, "mama, I had soooo much fun at Hannah's birthday!"

Marie,
I cannot even begin to imagine ever being that organized. You amaze me!

The organization part was Asha's idea. I just thought it was a cute thing to make.
